Saint Paul’s Cathedral Kolkata

The Saint Paul’s cathedral counts amongst the  most important religious places in Kolkata. The construction of this church started in 1839  and was finally completed after a lot of hard work in 1847. This building designed by Major William Nairn Forbes is constructed in an Indo-Gothic architectural style.The cathedrals unique architectural design attracts people from all over the globe . The main hall is large, with delicate artwork covering the eastern walls, skillfully carved wooden pews and chairs, two marvelous Florentine frescoes, and stained glass windows in the West. Inside the Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Kolkata are exquisite mural paintings that vividly describe the life and works of St. Paul.
 In terms of popularity it lacks none be the  Victoria Memorial, Nandan, Rabindra Sadan theater complex, or the Birla Planetarium. Very well maintained, it is a very peaceful and serene place. Prayers and other services are held on a regular basis. On the eve of Christmas the church assumes  festive look.

Armenian Church Kolkata

 Known as the "Mother Church of the Indian Armenians", the Armenian church of the Holy Nazareth is located in the northwest corner of Barabazar in the Greater Kolkata area. Originally the Armenian Church was built on the land in 1688, but get destroyed by a fire, and was rebuilt in 1724 by Agha Nazar.The entire interior is decorated with marble and has a staircase that leads to a gallery section  that are festooned with fresco's paintings.  The alter consists of a cross, the Gospel text and 12 candle sticks symbolizing Jesus Christ's Twelve Apostles and paintings by English artist AE Harris, "Holy Trinity", "Last Supper" and "The Enshrouding of Our Lord".

Saint John's Church Kolkata

Saint John's Church in Kolkata

Originally a cathedral, Saint John’s church was one of the first public buildings erected by the East India Company.  It is one of the oldest church in Kolkata. Also called 'The Stone Church' due to the use of stones obtained from Ganda, and Chunar, it is constructed in the Greek architectural pattern.The construction that started on 6th April, 1874 finally ended in  1884. The design of the church was modeled according to the St Martin-in-the-Fields of London. Saint John’s church was built by architect Lieutenant James Agg with a combination of bricks and stone which later earned it a nickname  “Pathure Girja” i.e. Stone Church.

The church has amazing neoclassical architecture and interior design.  The most distinctive feature is a stone spire that's about 174ft tall, which has a clock that is wound up every day. The interior of this church is just impressive with tall column frames on all sides of the church; the floor is an exceptional hue of the combination of blue-gray caused by the Gaur.Sufficient sunlight passes through the large windows fitted with colored glass. Behind the alter is lies a painting of the last supper by the British artist of German origin, Johann Zoffany,  Alongside the walls of the church you’ll see memorial tablets, statues and plaques mostly of British army officers and civil servants.

Mar Thoma Syrian Church Kolkata

The idea to build the Mar Thoma Syrian Church came about in the late 50’s by the congregation of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church. The congregation in Kolkata came into existence in 1947 and in 1967 the church was constructed with two floor and later extended to four floors.  The motto of this church is "Lighted to lighten".  This small church that came together for the purpose of pray and education, soon started social service to help the needy under the banner of Janata Medical Service . The church also runs a medical clinic general clinic, maternity ward, family welfare clinic, child care center, pathological laboratory etc.

Baptist Church Kolkata

The Baptist Church is located at Dr Suresh Sarkar Rd. The church remains open  24 hours a day.  The Baptist churches have two ministers, pastors and deacons. Most people consider Baptist churches, to be protestant churches, though some Baptists deny this identity. Baptists are diverse from one another with regards to what they believe, how they worship, their attitudes toward other Christians, and their understanding of what is important in Christian discipleship. In 1836 the first American Baptist missionaries arrived at North East India. There also exists a Bengal Orissa Bihar Baptist Convention which consists of a protestant denomination in India and operates in Odisha, Bihar and West Bengal, in the eastern part of India. The denomination has about 12,000 members, and approximately 70 congregations.

    Once i went Saint's John church with one of my Chirstian friend in the evening, after getting out from church, we show a Pani puri stall and we ate. They prepar pani puri so tasty that now i go there daily to take pani puri.
