Kolkata to Sunderbans

Whenever traveling to Kolkata do not miss to visit largest mangrove forest, Sunderban. Lying at the mouth of the Ganges river Sunderban covers part of India and Bangladesh. The most famous animal of Sunderbans is the Royal Bengal Tiger. It is certainly a place which you should visit at least once in a life time.

Located 140 KM far from Kolkata Airport Sundarban National Park is well connected with Kolkata. Basanti High way connects Sunderbans to Kolkata. Canning Railway station is the nearest Railway station of Sundarban National Park and is located 29 KM far from the Gate way of Sundarban (i.e. Godhkhali).

Kolkata to Shantiniketan

Shantiniketan not too far from Kolkata is a must visit destination. Get to know about the works of Gurudev by visiting the world famous Vishva-Bharati University founded by him. Famous for Vishva-Bharati University it has produced famous personalities as Indira Gandhi, Satyajit Ray Amartya Sen, R. Siva Kumar to name just a few.

It has been home to great artists and musicians. Shantiniketan is located amidst lush green fields and forested land.

Located approximately 212 km by road from Kolkata, Santiniketan is well connected by buses. From Dharmatala/Esplanade you can take a bus to reach this famous destination. It takes around 3 hours to reach Santiniketan. Numrous trains depart From Howrah and Sealdha station that connects Bolpur to Kolkata. From here you can hire a taxi to reach Santiniketan.;

Kolkata to Chandan Nagar

At a distance of 30 kilometers from Kolkata is located Chandan Nagar where one can find the remains of earlier French settlement. It has a museums which boasts of very ancient antiques which are very difficult to find anywhere in the world. 

Apart from this is the Patal-Bari which has an underground floor submerged in the Ganges. There are various places of interest in Chandernagore. You can plan your trip to Chandannagore Strand or Chandannagore Museum and Institute, Chuti park and New Digha. There are famous temples like Nritya Gopal Smriti Mandir Bishalakshmi temple to visit in this small yet beautiful city.

Ditance from Kolkata to Chandannagore is 37 km . G.T.Road or Delhi road connects it to Kolkata. You can hire a taxi from Kolkata to reach Chandannagore. Local trains from Howrah through Howrah Burdwan Eastern Railway main line connects the city to Kolkata. 

Kolkata to Digha Beach

Digha is situated approximately 187 km away from Kolkata. You can board a bus from Dharmatala bus stand of Kolkata to reach Digha. It is almost a 5 hour journey from Kolkata. You can also catch Digha Kandari Express from Howrah to reach Digha station. It takes almost 4 hours to reach Digha via train.

Kolkata to Mandarmani

Popular destinations near Kolkata

Travel to Mandarmani, a small virgin beach on Bay of Bengal. Located near to Digha beach it is a small fishing harbour with tourist resorts. Enjoy the sound of sea shores amidst friendly and safe environment.

How to Reach?

From Esplanade bus stand you can board a bus to Mndarmani. The total trip from Kolkata is around 3.5 hours. State Transport Buses are popular mode of transportation to reach this famous beach. Volvo bus operated from Gariahat via Esplaned are very popular amongst all those concerned much about peace and comfort.

Kumortuli

Kumortuli famous for artistic production of potters is a major point of attraction in the city. Here you will find the beautiful idols of Hindu gods and goddesses. Potters of Kumortuli are exported to foreign countries like; Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, Russia, and USA. Nearest metro station to Kumortuli is Shobhabazar-Sutanuti.

Botanical Garden

Take our some time to visit historical Calcutta Botanical Garden where you can find some of excellent species of plants.Colonel Robert Kyd, an army officer of the British East India Company laid the foundation of Botanical Garden in 1787. 

It is also home to largest Banyan trees in world. This garden is spread on area of over 109 hectares and contains a total collection of over 12,000 plant specimens. The park is situated in Shibpur, Howrah near Kolkata and can be reached easily.
